Football extra homework

In 1969, a game of football sparked a war in Central America!
But what how did football stop a war between Germany and England?
Around Christmas in 1914, during world war one, German and British soldiers were
friendly enough to play games of football with one another. Who knows who won
the games but on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, many soldiers ventured into
no man’s land (the land between the two countries’ trenches) and in an act of peace
and humanity, forgot the most violent events of human history.
The truce had begun with some unofficial ceasefires in the week leading up to
Christmas, with seasonal greetings and songs between the trenches. It is said that
even gifts were exchanged such as food or souvenirs.
Football is definitely a passionate game, causing many an argument and fight
between clubs and countries. But for once, in 1914, football was a peaceful game
between warring men. I would love to know the score!
