In 1969, a game of football sparked a war in Central America!
But what how did football stop a war between Germany and England?
Around Christmas in 1914, during world war one, German and British soldiers were
friendly enough to play games of football with one another. Who knows who won
the games but on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, many soldiers ventured into
no man’s land (the land between the two countries’ trenches) and in an act of peace
and humanity, forgot the most violent events of human history.
The truce had begun with some unofficial ceasefires in the week leading up to
Christmas, with seasonal greetings and songs between the trenches. It is said that
even gifts were exchanged such as food or souvenirs.
Football is definitely a passionate game, causing many an argument and fight
between clubs and countries. But for once, in 1914, football was a peaceful game
between warring men. I would love to know the score!

Show don't tell writing
Our aim was to upgrade this boring piece of writing into a descriptive piece of writing. This is mine and Edward's.
Boring
The man went to the store. He couldn't find what he wanted, so he left.
Descriptive
The charming cloudy grey haired man exited his house before progressing to the modern supermarket. The man suffered from alzheimer's and short term memory loss. The grey haired man was perplexed. He couldn’t find the things he was looking for. All he wanted, was to be normal, and some tea!!!

My visual Mihi
My Visual Mihi
My visual mihi represents everything that is to do with me and my family. The picture is split up into four section divided by an England flag. England was where I was born and where all my family were. The three people in the top left box are my family. On the right my Dad, in the middle, me and on the left, my Mum. Next to my Mum there is an NZ flag and Kapiti Island, that is to say that I live on the sunny Kapiti Coast.
In the bottom left corner it is all about sports. Where I come from is all about football. There is also a cricket set, a golf club and a golf green. The football on the top right also explains that I like designing things. Sport is a big thing in my life.
The koru in the top right corner represents life and that we are very lucky to have everything we have.
In the bottom right there are a few icons. The top from England and the bottom from NZ. They are the two main countries in my life.
I hope you like it.

The Sparkling Aqua Blue Pond
Down at the bottom of the luscious flowering garden, there was a sparkling aqua blue pond. The sun was blazing hot and the sky was a magnificent turquoise colour. The flowers were blooming in the midday sun.
Along came a bright, orange frog, who was incredibly obese. He was looking for a Sparkling Aqua blue pond. He spotted the best pond that he could ever possibly find and sprung onto the dusty bank of the pond. He plunged into the depths below, the shadows, full of mystery. He uncovered a beautiful green lily pad and sprung onto it. Like a cheetah hunting its prey. Once he had found the most comfortable and the most sensational spot on the whole lily pad, he fell into the most relaxed sleep he had ever had.
Suddenly there was a noise whizzing past his ear. “WHIZZ!” The sound was a fantastic marble coloured Heron swooping past his ear. One metre wing span soaring through the air gracefully like a swan. The Heron spotted the bright orange frog. The frog was still in the most relaxed sleep. The wonderful bird swooped down past the frog another time, just missing by an inch. The frog woke up with a start this time, and dived into the water amongst the murky green weeds. Gone. Living a life in the underworld. Never seen again. The heron accidentally dived too far down and flew straight into the water with a marvelous splash. All the frog could see was a struggling bird, then silence.
A beautiful, sleek pike swam by and spotted the heron in the water. Flapping with great annoyance, the heron could not fly, his marble coloured wing was broken. The pike swam towards the heron with great speed, mouth open. Crunch! The pike swallowed the bird whole.
On the edge of the pond was a crippled old man. Broad in the shoulders with a cold and unfeeling talk. Holding his glistening blue fishing rod, witnessing the whole thing happening. GOBSMACKED!!!
